There’s a new trash problem that so far is managing to slip under the radar, but today I want to bring it into the spotlight.
Phone cases are causing severe problems to our trash systems, and this is down to there un-biodegradable nature. Let me explain:
In today’s climate, smartphones are owned by nearly 3 billion people around the globe. Out of these people, it’s thought that 80% of these users will purchase a phone case. If these figures are correct, then that means nearly 2.4 billion phone cases are being used right now.
And to make it worse, this doesn’t equate for people with multiple phone cases, which let’s face it, we all know people that have different cases for different occasions. So, what can we do about the problem?
Luckily eco friendly phone cases have bounced on to the market, but before we show which ones are the best, I want to walk your through what to look for:
What To Look For When Buying An Eco Friendly Phone Cases
Picking a truly eco-friendly phone case can be a challenge, and it’s not down to a lack of options. The thing is, some claim to be eco friendly when in reality, they really aren’t. So to help you, here are a few things I like to check out before making a purchase:
The materials used to make the phone case is probably the most crucial factor. Let’s put it this way, if the materials aren’t eco-friendly, then nor is the phone case.
I’m sure you’ve heard of the problems BPA is having on the environment. It’s one of the chemicals found in plastic and can have detrimental effects on our health.
It’s all very well finding an eco-friendly phone case, but if it doesn’t fit your phone, it will just become another piece of trash, ensure you double-check before you make a purchase.
Eco-friendly cases come in a whole range of colors and designs, which means you get a few styling options to match your need perfect for nights out or gifts for fussy teenagers.
Finding a genuinely compostable phone case is like finding a needle in a haystack, but if you do, it’s by far the most eco-friendly option the market has to offer.
For some people, this might not be an essential factor, but for my fellow vegans, I feel your pain. Which is why I feel like this should be an essential factor.

I understand, not everyone has time to look for these products, and I guess that’s why I’m here today. I want to help you find the perfect case which doesn’t damage our planet, check em out:

Are Phone Cases Bad For The Environment?
Yes, Phone cases are causing a lot more damage then we’d care to think about. The problem is the material that’s used to make the cases is predominantly plastic. As we all know, plastic is causing severe harm to our environment, this for a few reasons:
- It contains harmful toxins
- Does not biodegrade
- Production increases the risk of climate change
So what can we do?
The first step is to move to something a little more eco friendly, and when it comes to it, there is only one option, and that’s the Pela Case. The cases are 100% compostable, which means they leave nothing behind but nutrient which soil.
Is Pela Case Good?
It’s a common question, but I also understand why people ask it, I mean a compostable case can’t be that good. Surely it will just compost in your pocket. Well, this is where we’re wrong.
The Pela case won’t start to compost unless it’s in the right setting, and your pocket isn’t one of these settings. So Pela is excellent for the ecosystem, but it’s also good for your phone. The combination of materials gives fantastic protection around your phone.
So the answer is yes, Pela Cases are good, in fact, they’re more than that, they’re the best the market has to offer. IF you want to find out more about the cases you can check out my Pela Case review.
